My Lesson about Snow

MISTY

When I woke up this morning and looked outside, guess that I saw? I saw WHITE! White everywhere...on our deck, on our trees & bushes, in our park across the street...just everywhere. I never saw this white before so I asked Max what it was and he said it's something called snow.

Snow happens when it gets really, really cold and instead of raining and just being wet outside, the rain freezes and turns white and it's called snow. But the neat thing about snow is that it grows. It starts little but then gets big in high piles that I think they would be good to jump in, but Max says I can't first 'cause I'm not supposed to be outside and second 'cause it's too cold for my paws.

He says I should lay on the perch or by the front window and watch for people to see how they walk or drive their car on our snow. He says sometimes they slip and slide around, and it's fun to watch. If you want to see some of our snow, Mom says I can send you the piles in our driveway and then you can watch your own people on it!

But Max told me something else about snow, too...the best thing of all! He said when it snows lots, that means pretty soon somebody called Santa comes and gives presents to good kitties. How cool is that?

Mom & Dad didn't go to work today 'cause our snow will be really high, so I'm happy 'cause maybe they'll play with me all day. I think I'm really gonna' like this snow stuff!

Alas when we had snow, the human male was the one who got to stay home. The woman went into work. Sigh. It's nice to watch, but I hear that if you jump in it, it is quite wet. YUCK!

Yup, snow is to cold for paws. I went outside (even tho daddy said it was too cold) this morning and the snow was up to my belly. Now mommy says it would be waaaaay offur my head. Tosa is white and pretty and momma and daddy stayed here with us, but they went out to push the snow around and now momma's kranky. I guess daddy leaning on the shovel wasn't much help for her.

Happy Snow Day. Mum stayed home from work too. It looks at your house about what it looked at at my house.

Snow is fun to watch, but it is no fun for kitties to go out in. It is really, really cold and it sticks to your paws and melts back into water, very cold water. You wouldn't like it at all. Stay inside where it is warm and just watch it.

Oh, mom says she wants lots of the white stuff here soon. We got a dusting in Albuquerque but mom skis. Someplace called Sandia Peak had 100inches of snow year before last and none last year. I like to walk with mom in it too. Lots of snow on top of Sandia Peak would make mom very happy and some snow in town (but not too much) would be nice. I love to watch snow flakes :)

Oh, boy, snow! We don't like to walk in deep snow so Dad usually shovels a trail in the back yard so we can still go exploring outside when we get snow.

Mom loves to cross country ski, but only has a couple of opportunities a year here in Northern Virginia. Dad grew up in Southern California and mostly likes to make big fires in the fireplace when it snows (after he's done some shoveling).

It was 75 degrees here yesterday, then we got some of that cold air from you. Today was sunny and bright, but only 50.

Enjoy the white stuff.

Wow, what a nice view you have. We wish we can have snow here too but Daddy says we are in the tropics and it does not snow here.

Dress snug for the season.

Hey, Misty, I learned bout snow last year, but it's still amazin. Ask yur mom to bring sum in an put it in a bowl fur you. If you lick it, it turns to water. But it's not housebroken; it leaves a puddle. Last year, we had one of those days when the beans acided there was too much snow to go to werk. It was lotsa fun.
Cali was helpin Mom at werk fur awhile afore Mom & Dad tooked her to her new home in Catifornia.

It sure looks like you are getting quite a bit of that white stuff back there. We used to get about four to five inches here every once in awhile in winter but haven't gotten any for about five or six years now. Mom is sad because she would like to see some again. Of course if it was a lot like where you are I don't think she would like that. I think it's kind of pretty seeing everything all white. Mom loves to watch the snowflakes fall. We don't get enough here for it to be a pain in the butt.

We've gotten a lot of snow, too! Because my agent keeps the birdfeeders full, there tends to be a lot of birds gathering during the winter.

I love winter.

Hi Misty! -- we don't have snow where I live, but Blackie has been telling me about it. It loooks beautiful! Sometimes I think we're both lucky to have big brothers who explain things to us. Sometimes. -- Maggie Fu
