The nasty "Anonymous" commenter is Back!

I'm taking over the blog today to complain about these long, weird, obscene, anonymous comments many of us have been getting. I got a few within the past 2 weeks, so changed the comment settings to allow only registered Blogger users. That would be fine if the entire cat blogosphere used Blogger, which they don't. By allowing only registered users, those using Wordpress or other sites, can't leave comments with us. (Note to Chey: This means YOU!)

So, after taking note of that, I changed the settings back to "anyone" but left the word verification on, despite some who don't like it, saying it's time consuming.

Well, this evening the nasty anonymous blogger is back. I had no time to visit anyone today, but assume others are having this problem too. Has anyone notified Blogger about this, and if so, what was their response?

Does anyone have a solution for this problem, other than leaving the comment setting at "registered users"? Making the commenter type in word verification doesn't seem to stop them.

we wish we could help. We had to change our settings a while ago because of the same problem. One day we got over 100 email comment notifications from anonymous. They were long and very obscene and it took over 2 hours to delete them from all of the posts. He pretty much spammed the entire Meezer Tails blog. We have been reluctant to change the settings back. - Meezer Mom

I got one of those comments yesterday. They are very ridiculous. I just delete them. I think I have figured out the person's IP address, so I am going to watch carefully.

I have only had one of those comments so far. It is weird considering that they have to do the word verification thing. Some humans are sick.

My Human-American mommy constantly complains about the same thing. When I am elected President of the United States I promise I will do something about it.

We get a long weird anonymouse comment every few Big Moons, but so far we are just deleting them. We dont know what we would do if there were lots of them.

We dont want want to do the email or funny letters thing, and we dont want to limit comments to only bloggers. We'll hope it doesn't happen to us too often. :(

Well, we've received a couple ourselves, but have noticed today that on some blogs, the sicko is getting past word verification. That stinks. Hopefully, they'll move on past your blog soon.

We're sorry to hear about all the trouble you've had with the anonymous commenter(s). We hope they stop bothering you all soon. `

I have mine set to only registered users. You know, I never realized that that meant only blogger people could use it. I just thought that they had to sign in with at least an email or something. Hmmm, now I don't know what to do? It sucks that some beans do that.

I had one nasty comment and then one with long results from a track meet. Like you I have the word verification on, but still get them.

Maybe, even though they don't use blogger to blog. Our buddies like Chey could get a blogger or google account. All you need is an e-mail address.

Chey has actually gotten a few of those on her blog. Spam Karma catches most of them, but a few have gotten through and we've had to go in and manually delete them. Whoever/whatever is doing it, is good.

Until then, many of us who do not use blogger still have blogger accounts--it's just that you can't go right to our blog from our comments. It would be nice if blogger or someone could figure out who is doing that.

So far, I haven't had any anonymous commenters. It would break my heart to have somebody be mean or weird to me. I love everybody and think everybody should be nice. But I guess sometimes they're not.

Sorry you having so much trouble...G

I got this once, too. The only things I could do is delete that comments.

Or, if this one do it twice, I think I will try to block him out of my blog. Still figure out waht to do.

Twice in 6 months. I've just deleted them, but I wish Blogger would figure it out.

Seriously though, I am a teacher with 18 young children on blogs and this kind of thing is always a big concern. I have not yet had anything icky on blog.com, so am considering myself lucky.

We just discovered a few of those icky "comments" too. They are very strange and we cannot read them...
I hope they catch the person who is doing that and punish them.

how do I delete the horrible comments. I have one from a few days ago that is really offensive but also doesn't actually make much sense either. I just don't know how to delete comments!
