Feline Public Service Announcement

VIRUS ATTACK

Our good friends Wally, Ernie & Zoe, The Island Cats, had a problem at their blog yesterday. As soon as we visited their page in the late afternoon, our antivirus program went nuts and up popped a fake site offering to scan our computer. Of course, Mom didn't click on the link but immediately ran a full scan on our computer. Turns out we'd been infected with Mal/FakeAvJs-A from their page. Luckily, she was able to remove it and our computer is OK.

Now, we know our friends are completely innocent 'cause no one in the cat blogosphere would EVER deliberately do this to anyone. So we talked to their Mom and she said their blog hosting site, GoDaddy, had problems with hackers. She fixed their page and it's OK to visit now.

Just to be safe though, we recommend anyone who visited The Island Cats yesterday update your AV program and run a full scan.

Once again, we're really sorry this happened. It appears the problem occurred yesterday afternoon and we got it fixed as fast as we could. We hope no one else got a bug.

We visited the Island Cats in the morning, and had no problems. We think in general all of us blog-hopping cats should keep our anti-virus stuff updated unless we are using a Mac. Happy Christmas Eve eve!

We saw their comment on the CB and when we visited, they were okay. That is very scary for all, especially for them, because -- well, if it happened to us, how would we fix it? We are very glad they were able to take care of it and hope GoDaddy isn't hacked again.

Thanks for the info. We haven't done much visiting the last few days because our mum isn't feeling so good and also our internet keeps going down because of iced up overhead lines. We will run an extra scan anyway just to be sure.

Oh that is so terrible for the Island Cats to be hacked like that. We didn't get a chance to visit much so we missed it but it just stinks that it would happen - why do people do mean things like that to other peoples blogs. WE are glad that they got everything all fixed and hope it doesn't happen to anyone else!

Oh my goodness, the poor Island Cats! We all know they would be the last people who would ever want anything like that to happen! Thanks for the PSA. We've been meaning to update our Norton but have procrastinated. It's being done now!
