The Attic

GEORGE

A while back I told you I'd talk more about that special place in our house known as

that we're not allowed to go into. Some of us have referred to those places in our homes as "forbidden areas". Mom went into the attic yesterday, and we got a chance to look around in there, so I thought this would be a good time to tell you about it.

The Attic is a really interesting place to explore, so every time Mom or Dad go upstairs, all 4 of us race to the top of the stairs just in case they might be opening the attic door. Then we hang around and try to sneak in quickly before we get caught. Usually at least one of us manages to get in, then they have to leave the door open so that crew member doesn't get trapped in there, and then we all get a chance to go in. In the winter it's really cold and in the summer, it's really hot in there.

The attic is a place that's over the top of our living/dining room area. It's sort of like a basement, but more spooky. It's dark in there 'cause there are no windows and only 1 light bulb, so the corners are very dim. When you look up you can see the rafters and roof vents, but they're too high for us to jump onto. One time there were wasps living in the roof vents and Dad had to spray them 'cause Mom was worried that they'd get into the main part of the house and we'd get stung by one.

Mostly the attic is used to store things that our family doesn't use very often. It has lots of stuff in it, like boxes full of neat things to look at and dressers and chairs to hide under and great places to explore. We never found any spideys or mousies in there, though. That's probably 'cause there's nothing for them to eat!

Some people are scared to go into attics, 'cause they're afraid they might see a ghost or skeleton or something scary, but we aren't afraid at all. In fact, we're so brave we think Mom should leave the door open all the time so we can go in and explore whenever we want to!

Now, if you'll excuse me, it's time for my morning nap.

Oh heck yeah, attics are a definite "must see" area, even if you do have to be sneaky and climb a ladder to get there.

We have a big set of stairs that go to our attic. I got to venture to the top of the stairs once but then Meowmy saw me and yelled so I skittered back down. I wish I could spend time up there!

Oh yeah - we have one of those, but we're never allowed up there. And we're kind of scared of the ladder to get up there - but it's ok all the stuff up there is old stuff we've already rubbed!

Our poor, deprived kitties don't have an attic to explore. You're all very lucky to have one!

It sounds to me as if the attic is actually a place specifically for cats to entertain themselves in?

I'm envious, too! An attic sounds like the coolest place I know to explore!

You guys are so lucky to have an attic! We have eaves and stuff, but the only way to get up there is through a little opening high high high on a wall in the garage, which we can't get into either. Mom would love to have the storage space and we'd love to explore, but she says too many roof planes makes the whole prospect of using it out of the question. :-(

I think the attic would suit you better as a kitty loft conversion - you know, like an apartment in the roof. It could have water fountains, beds, heating, scratching posts and some home grown catnip.

I think you need to insist the human actions this! x
