Misty Update 2
2:30 PM
Temperature is now slightly above normal after receiving fluids. Switching from Clavamox (antibiotic) liquid to pill form. Will do force feeding every 2 hours and adding 500 mg Lysine per day to the syringe. Keep up with the saline nasal flush and return on Sat AM for a recheck. She's anemic which could just be blood loss from the surgery or could mean internal bleeding. Will re-do blood work on Sat.
12:45 PM
Misty is staying at the vet's for observation for a few hours. She has an upper respiratory viral infection with a low grade fever and got sub-cutaneous fluids, a nasal flush with saline solution and was force fed liquified Science Diet AD. The vet says if a cat can't smell the food, they won't eat. They're not sure if the fever is from the viral infection or related to the surgery. Her abdomen and incision look OK but since she's not eating, she hasn't passed any stool so they're not positive her intestines are working right.
Will update later with recommended treatment.
Here we were last night preparing to give Misty her medicine. This is a 2 person job since she won't hold still, starts salivating and keeps turning her head from side to side. Most of it ends up on her fur, not in her mouth and we're concerned she's not getting the benefit of the medicine.
She's going back to our regular vet at 10:30AM today since she won't eat, even the moist food that supposedly highly palatable for cats. We've tried spoon feeding her, forcing some in her mouth, but it's hard to know how much she's actually swallowing. I've seen her try to eat dry kibbles, taking one at a time in her mouth then crunching it, but she only does it 2 or 3 times, then walks away from the bowl.
I want the vet to check her mouth, tongue & throat and also take her temperature and check for dehydration. I've been giving her small amounts of water orally by syringe and she is urinating in the litterbox about twice a day.
I will update later today.

Oh, Misty, is your tummy still sore from your surgery? Please try to eat a little bit so the medicines gets in your body to make you all well. Has your Mommy tried baby food? Lilly loved the baby food in the syringe. Gerber stage 2 turkey or chicken. Lip smackin' good!

Mom gave me babyfood when I wouldn't eat during my chemo. Actually, she still uses it to disguise the crushed up L-lysine I have to take for my eye. I love the stuff!
I gave an award to Misty. It's at my blog.
Sweet Misty, I know it's yucky, but even I say you should let your parents win on this one, and I never say that. Purr Purr
Poor little Misty. I hope you begin eating and drinking more so you can heal completely. Please keep us updated on your progress.
Misty, even though it is very yuck-o, you should try your very hardest to take your medicine like a good girl! I hope you will start feeling better and eating real good soon.
Its good you're going to the vet to check on the eating stuff. You don't want to be like Snap when she had to have a tube shoved up her nose and her belly filled with a bucket of water and mineral oil.
Kaze
Misty I hope you are okay. And I wish you would start liking your foods a little more. I am glad that you are interest in eating even if you don't feel so well.

Oh, we hope Misty makes a quick turnaround. My mom has watched our new sis do the same thing with food and has been hand-feeding and syringing water. Medicine is hard with a post-surgical baby, too, so we know how hard this is for everybody. :-( We'll be purring for all of you!

Mom said for us to tell you that there is something called liqui-tinic that has lots of vitamins in it. Texas took it when he had cansir to help keep his body strong, and to help with the anemia (it had eye-ron in it). You might want to ask your vettie about that, or if you still have problems with the sneezles, to see about increasing your lysine dose to 750 or 1000. Texas sneezled when the beans tried to lower his dose to 500 a day, he had to be at 1000, but he was a big mancat, around 13 pounds when diagnosed, 9.5 when he died from the lymphoma.
Misty, we's just peekin in to see how yoo's feelin. We's still purrin reely hard for yoo!
Misty, you are in such good hands.
This makes me feel better about you.
