Happy Purrthday George

Today is my purrthday and I'm 12 years old. Dad says I'm a geezer cat and according to the chart Tipper & Max showed on their purrthday post, I'm 64 in human years. That makes me older than Mom or Dad. How can that be? I'm their son...I can't be older than them!

Well, since I'm 64, maybe I should start thinking about retiring.

After undergoing my intensive training for the past 6 years, I think Tipper might be ready to take over my responsibilities soon. Naturally I would retain my position as Senior Cat but turn over the daily challenges of running our household to her. With Max at her side, I'm confident everything would be under control. Of course, I'd be available for consultation in between my naps. (Note to Tipp: Please make an appointment in advance with my secretary. She has my napping schedule.)

Ahhhh...just think of it friends. If I was retired I would only have to work if Dad needed my help with a special project. I could spend all day resting and watching birdies & squirrels in the yard. When I got hungry I'd stroll over to the bowl for a bite then take a nap under the quilt on the big bed.

You already do that.

Excuse me. Just whose purrthday post is this!!!

Sorry. Go on.

(ahem) As I was saying, if I was retired I'd have time to work on some new art projects I've been thinking about and could do more visiting. Then, of course, there's Misty's training that has to be finished. Since Tipper & Max would be busy all day running the house, I'd have to step in and spend more time with Misty.

But wait a minute. Misty wears me out! She has lots of friends that come over and has so much energy she's always running around, jumping & playing. And she teleports all over the world to do her visiting! How could I keep up with her and still get my rest?

Hmmm....maybe I should rethink this retiring thing.

While I think about that, won't everyone enjoy some cake & ice cream with me?

Happy Birthday, George! I think you are still far too young to think of retiring. Unless you have a real good 401K.

I'm not sure you should retire. You gotta get tired first. And I don't know about you but I nap enough so that I never get tired. So it's kinda hard to get retired.

Happy Purrthday George. You better stick around and work awhile yet. From some beans that retirement isn't what its cracked up to be.

Now I have a bit of a Beatles song for you. ::clears throat::

When I get older losing my hair,
Many years from now.
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine.

If I'd been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door,
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

You'll be older too,
And if you say the word,
I could stay with you.

I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone.
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride.

Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more.
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

Every summer we can rent a cottage,
In the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck & Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line,
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away

Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

Happy Birthday on Friday George! You are a wonderfully wise Man Cat and I think your retirement ideas make lots of sense. Maybe Tipper and Max could both help with the remainder of Misty training and free you up for consultation only duties and occasional projects with your dad.
