George Update

All the rehydration and the appetite stimulant (cyproheptatine 1/2 pill once or twice a day) seems to be working! George is drinking (we're adding ice cubes to the water bowl every day since he likes them and it encourages him to drink). He's eating on his own (Science Diet dry kibbles for self feeding) and I'm supplementing twice a day with canned food (which is of great interest to Tipper & Max. Skinny little Misty couldn't care less and she's the one who really should eat it!). So far, there's been no more vomiting and he's acting more like his usual self. He's being allowed to sleep next to me on the bed at night so I can monitor him if he begins vomiting again.

Our vet has called twice to check on him and wants to see him immediately if the vomiting starts up again. We have 7 more days of appetite stimulant pills, so we'll see what happens after that. If his appetite slacks off or if the vomiting resumes, the vet will treat him for irritable bowel syndrome with steroids. I will also talk to her about the best food for an almost 13 year old cat with IBS.
