Explaining a Bald Birdie

MISTY

See this? It's a fake birdie house and a fake real birdie used to sit on the corner there. Now all that's left are a few feathers where the birdie was sitting. But I want to say right now, this wasn't my fault...none of it! It's Mom's fault and I'll explain how I know this.

The birdie on the birdie house was on a shelf in the upstairs bathroom. Mom wants to paint that room so Dad took down the shelf and Mom set the shelf and birdie house with the birdie on it in the hallway.

Well, I was minding my own business when I happened by and saw the birdie sitting on it's house. Of course I had to sniff it and touch it with my paw 'cause I thought it was a real birdie, but then I found out it was a fake birdie with real feathers. Then somehow, while I was sniffing it, my mouth got on it and I might have put the bitey on it, but just a little, 'cause you all know how much I like feathers, 'specially on my feather-butt mousies, and I wanted to see if those birdie feathers were real or fake.

Then, you know, one thing lead to another and I'm not really sure what happened next 'cause it happened so fast, but suddenly the birdie wasn't sitting on it's house any more. I think it fell down the stairs so I ran downstairs to play wi...uh, I mean, to see if it was alright. Then the weirdest thing of all happened 'cause while I was looking at it, the feathers started falling off, almost all by themselves, and the birdie was bald!!

Well, when Mom got home from work she found feathers all over the floor and she looked around 'til she found the bald birdie and then she blamed ME, just because I happened to be sitting in the same room. But, as I've explained, I was an innocent bystander!

You can all see how this is Mom's fault, right? If she had put the birdie house away instead of leaving it in the hallway, I wouldn't have found it and the birdie wouldn't have fallen off it's house and it's feather's wouldn't have fallen off either and the birdie wouldn't be bald. You all think I'm completely innocent, right?

You are absolutely, completely innocent. All kittehs are, no matter what they do.

Totally Mom's fault. What was she thinking, putting it down. My cousin Audrey knocks bottles of anything off the kitchen counter - totally the Mom's fault for putting them there. It is a known principle.

Well of course it was your mom's fault! She can't blame you for checking out that little birdie and making sure he was alright...

Of COURSE it isn't your fault! If things were put away where they should be, the Temptation of trying to make furriends wouldn't be there!

OK, you will say your are innocent. BUt Mom is not totally at fault, either. When Beans start painting and remolding, they forget the small stuff, like real fake birdies.

It must have been bad glue on the birdie feathers right? I mean if it were a real bird, I don't think there would be any problem here at all, right?

Totally, totally not yoor fawlt. We think dat was just a sickly real fake birdy who dropped all it's fev-vers thru no fawlt of yoors. Oh, and just a side note, next time don't hang around...just saying.

Since your mouth got on it completely by accident, it is definitely not your fault !

Ok, first your mom has to know how much you love feathers, so she had to know you would have to look at it, then honestly it sounds like the birdy chose to go in your mouth - not the other way around. Then the birdie chose to go down the stairs and loose it's feathers - you didn't pull them off. So I really think that you are completely innocent - just because you were checking on it doesn't make it your fault.

OMC! Dat iss too funny. Silly birdie, fallin down da stairs! REAL birdies would fly aways, an not be in yur way, not jus sittin there waitin to get got!

Mom just needs to go get a mew fake birdie...and gives you hugs an kisses and den put dat silly fing away where it won't git in yur way agin!

Such fings are NOT kitteh's fawlts!

Of course you are innocent. We know you wouldn't have attacked that birdie. The same thing happened to me one Christmas. Mum had two fake birdies on the tree and when she took the tree down after Christmas, one of the birdies was completely bald. She blamed me, but I was innocent too. I think the birdie must have got hot indoors and took his fev-vers off.

Yeah, thats what happens ta our toy mousies. First the tails and ears fall off on their own, then the furs fall off, just all by themselfs, really.

Its not our fault if we are seen carrying the pieces around later. We are jus tryin ta put it all back together!

Misty, you are soooooooo innocent!!!
Your mom should be apologizing to YOU for bringing a fake real bird into the house in the first place. Sheesh...that's like leaving a sugar cookie unattended on the kitchen counter and expecting that no one is ever going to touch it. That the cookie is just going to sit there forever looking cute.
